I just received a 1099-r for my wife but we have already filled our tax return. Can i wait until I do my 2017 taxes to add it? What are my options?

No, you can not include a 2016 form on your 2017 taxes. You will need to prepare an amended 2016 tax return and report the 1099-R there. Remember that the IRS gets copies of your 1099-Rs and they do check to see if you file them all.
