Tax Year Prior to 2020: If we filed with TurboTax, does the IRS have our bank information to have the stimulus direct deposited? Will we me the mailed recipients of the check?

@JohnA-NJ Yes they paid 40 dollars efile and 40 dollars for direct deposit I got a text from them stating they have a direct deposit pending for 2morrow

Despite vague reassurances, unfortunately there are still no clear answers for those of us who chose "Pay With My Refund" with Santa Barbara TPG (SBTPG) acting as the intermediary using direct deposit into a bank account (not a card).  These are my concerns:

* Even though your "real" bank account number appears in the direct deposit section, boxes 21(b) and 21(d) of the 1040 form you access via your TurboTax login, it does not necessarily mean that is the account info that was filed with the IRS.

* Your actual filing with the IRS probably have a routing/account number for SBTPG so they could receive your refund, deduct the TurboTax fees, and then transfer the adjusted amount to your declared actual bank account.

* If this is the case, it is possible that the IRS does not have your correct direct deposit information.

* The TurboTax online support staff appear to have not yet been given clear guidance on this and may be awaiting answers as well.  (I would imagine this is also a topic of discussion in the private moderator forums.)

* SBTPG’s site has a stimulus page that’s been cited numerous times on this board, but as of now it does not directly address TurboTax customers: https://www.sbtpg.com/coronavirus-stimulus-payment-info/

* There is no information the IRS can provide that speaks to this scenario, it is really a question for Intuit and SBTPG to answer.

Hopefully, there is a mechanism in place between intermediaries like SBTPG and the IRS in which they provide the customer’s actual account number secondarily with the original filing in case it is needed for an occasion like this - or - SBTPG will receive our stimulus payments and route them in full right to our bank accounts, just as they did with our refunds.

I welcome any corrections or clarifications.

@Petey7311  If they had their fees taken out of their refund, that means the SBGT bank was involved, but if they paid the fees from their debit/credit/checking account that wouldn't involve the 3rd party bank.  I know I will never have my fees taken out of my refund, I will just pay it up front, which I normally do anyway.

@jeffsw True that - never ever again will I choose "Pay With Your Refund".  It's a huge ripoff at $40, and now puts us in this position of uncertainty for the stimulus payment.   Better off just paying TurboTax on your CC.  Lesson learned.

I agree didn't know it would be such a rip off, then I can't get a straight answer on ur stimulus $$$ annoying

@JohnA-NJ Hey John so just to clarify, you “paid with refund”, and you have a pending direct deposit for tomorrow?

@Mroff - No, that was another poster who said that.  I'm not clear on what their exact scenario was.

Everybody just remember..go to Check Your Payment portal when it is up and running (hopefully) this week, they are saying probably the 17th..Friday, could be sooner.  If they do have your direct deposit info, you should have a payment scheduled.  If they don't, it should show that they are sending a check, but allow you to input your direct deposit info, that is the way I understood the latest articles on this.  They were working on having SBGT to be involved or at least provide all info to IRS electronically, of course they aren't going to do that for free.  I still want to believe the IRS can access our account info since we put it on the 1040 when we filed our taxes through Turbo tax, I mean, I see my correct info on there, so we will see.

@jeffsw - I hope you're right one way or another.   And if it comes to pass that stimulus payments have to go back through SBTPG, there is no way they can conceivably take a fee from the recipient.

Not legally - it would be a fee taken without  consent (unless there was some legalese mumbo-jumbo buried in their TOS that covered such an eventuality).

Not morally - they'd be stealing from peoples' relief payments during a time of global crisis.

In any event, if they even tried to do that, they'd get crushed with a class action suit the size of Jupiter.

If your dependant is 17 or older, you will not receive money for them.
