Tax/Federal Refund 2016

Hi, 

About a 3 months ago I filed my taxes for the year of 2016. I filed it via the Turbo Tax Deluxe software for the year of 2016. I was told that I would be receiving it through mail but since than I have not. I would like an update on the status of it, please.

The 2016 return can only be prepared in 2016 desktop software (CD/download).   So hopefully that's what you did.  And it has to be printed and mailed to the IRS.  It cannot be efiled.

The IRS has not been processing paper returns the last several weeks due to Coronavirus.  So there will be a backlog once they begin processing again.

The IRS is not processing any paper tax returns at this time.

The IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your Economic Impact Payment. Paper returns will be processed   once processing centers are able to reopen.

TurboTax cannot give you updates about your return or refund.  A 2016 return done a couple months ago would of had to be mailed.   For your Federal refund, the IRS is not currently able to process mailed in tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your economic impact payment. Paper returns will be processed  once processing centers are able to reopen.
