I filed my daughters 1040 electronically using the 2025 desktop edition of TurboTax and afterward recieved another W-2 in the mail for a job she didn't have very long and that she forgot about. For some reason the W-2 that she did file didn't have any withholdings so her return was for $0. Her added W-2 had withholdings which she will get back of course, about $59. What action to take to correct the return has been unclear to say the least.
Should I use Turbotax and amend the return electronically with a 1040-X? Should I print out a new 1040 and mail it in with "Superseded Return" written at the top? Searching on Google and forums takes you in different directions depending on where you look. Even the IRS website is unclear.

Use 1040X and amend. Since you used desktop software, go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Tax Forms>Amend a Return
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
You can watch for information here:

Thanks for the quick reply. If I send it in before the tax deadline does it count as a superseded return or an amended return, and does it even matter?
The return that was just filed is an Amended Return and is separate from the original return that was filed. Even though the amended return is adding to or correcting the original return, the IRS processes it separately.
