Received an IND-996 rejection within an hour of filing. Neither myself or any dependents have ever received an IP Pin. I go to check the ID.ME web site and it says there is a line and the line is suspended. Am I being rejected because the ID.ME system is down rather than actually needing an IP Pin?
I have four dependents, even if one of them was issued one I have no way of knowing which one. Thoughts?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You'll need to contact the IRS. They think one of your dependents has an IP Pin issued to them. There may have been fraudulent use of one of their social security numbers last year or any number of possible issues. It is of course possible that this is an error. But you can only find all of that out by contacting them.
Here's how to contact the IRS.
And here's the IRS guide on identity theft.
Yes, that was the problem. I contacted them this morning and they had to do a lot of digging, but for some reason one of my children were issued an IP Pin last year. They admittedly didn't notify us of this nor issued the IP Pin letter. The IRS processes never cease to boggle my mind with their inefficiency, pointlessness, and lack of clarity.
Now my child is stuck having to use the IP Pin permanently due to some issue that we were never made aware of. Why can't we just do flat taxes and be done with this constant headache?
