Stimulus Money

My wife and I filed our taxes with Turbotax last week. Based on the letter I received from the IRS (6475), Turbo tax stated we had not received all of our Stimulus Money and bumped up our return by $1400. After we filed we got another letter addressed to my wife with the same amount listed ($1400). I'm not sure what to do. We always file jointly, so any money we received should have been distributed jointly. I'm not sure if , based on the letters they are saying we got $1400 each, or it is essentially a duplicate.

Stimulus Money

Your wife's letter is not a duplicate. For a couple filing jointly, the IRS will report half of the total stimulus they paid to each spouse. So according to the IRS, you and your spouse have received a total of $2,800 in stimulus money.

If you did not report the $1,400 received for your wife on your tax return that you have filed, then the Recovery rebate credit has been overstated by $1,400. The IRS will correct your return, adjust your refund but this will cause a delay in your refund.
