If you e-filed:
Banking information for direct deposit is wrong or closed
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.
Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information
If your refund is sent back to the IRS—- make certain that the address you entered on your Form 1040 is correct. And…open all mail, even if it looks like junk mail.
This is a public web site that can be seen by anyone—including scammers and would-be identity thieves who would love to contact you and pretend to be from TurboTax. Please remove the personal information you posted here ASAP by returning to your post and clicking the three little blue dots on the upper right to edit your post.
And....you did not pay a "direct deposit fee." There is no such fee. Did you choose to pay your TurboTax fees by having them deducted from your federal refund. That $40 fee was a "refund processing" fee that is charged by the third party bank that will receive your refund when the IRS issues it. That bank then pays TurboTax, takes $40 for itself, and sends the rest of the refund to your bank account. That means there is an extra layer of confusion now since you entered wrong banking information.
Your refund will go back to the third party bank. The third party bank might issue and mail you a check, or they might send your refund back to the IRS and then you will have to wait for the IRS to mail you a check.
If the third party bank mails the check, it will come in a plain envelope via first class mail so make sure you open all mail and do not assume anything is junk mail without opening it. While you are waiting, make sure that the address you entered on your tax return is correct, or your problem will be even worse.
Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.

OH NO! I didn't even take in to consider the 3rd party factor here. My bank account was closed with a negative balance. I still owe that institution. I'm sure my situation still falls under "Wrong Account Info Given". My payment for the file service to TurboTax was supposed to come from my return, that was supposed to go in my bank account 7 months ago. So come to think of it I agreed somewhere in the fine print "should my return be delayed for any reason past 90 days from my e-filing acceptance date TurboTax would charge my bank card to pay for the filing service per Intuit something to this affect. When I E-filed and was accepted in February 2025 I figured heck yea come on down with my tax check in 21 days! That was back in February. Its 7 months later September 17, 2025 and 2 amended returns on my original E-file. 2 of them.... I was also a victim of Tax info fraud for a phenomenal income I didn't claim. The delay, fraud, loss of financial institution, TurboTax's cant get their payment, 3rd party check issuer can't get theirs either. Where does this put me?
Feeling very very lucky to have heard from TurboTax Monday September15. Telling me I'm not charged the fees with the 5 day early guarantee and adjusted my charges because the bank account transfer failed. TurboTax/Intuit notified me all parties current & they are sending USPS to my address per 846 date. I want to thank you for making mention to look at everything with the correspondence. To loose it that way after so much waiting.... It never crossed my mind that could happen. With my luck, or lack there of, I would have thrown it out in just that way. I believe this to be true! This info saved me from something I may never had recovered from. Thank you.
