Just like changing your address with the US Post Office when you move to a new address you should notify the IRS that you have a new address. Using the Form 8822 would be the correct way. It usually taxes the IRS 6 to 8 weeks to process the change.
@DoninGA Thanks for your reply. I still have 2 questions:
1. In my above case, changing the address will not impact my already filed and refunded tax port. Is that correct? I just need to notify IRS.
2. If I change address before filling the tax report, according to the previous post "How do I change my address", I can directly enter my new address, and IRS will update the address record when processing my tax filling. Is that correct?
Considering the processing time (6-8 weeks), I just want to compare which way (move first then tax filling or tax filling first, wait for refund then move) is better? Thank you very much.
For question 1, that is correct. Changing your address after you filed and received your refund will have no impact on you.
For question 2, if you enter your new address on the filed tax return the IRS will update their records with the address from the tax return.
yes because any notices will go to the address on the return and could get lost in forwarding if that even happens.
