Question

Should I amend?

I filed my taxes early based on the word of my HR associate. I filed 1/7, return was accepted 1/18, and it finally processed yesterday (60 days later) with a code 570.

I've come to find out that the wages I reported for my w2 are several hundred dollars off, having gone by the word of my HR person. I've read that the IRS will not fix this problem and that my only recourse is to file an amended return.

I've read that I should wait on the IRS to give me further instructions, but I have hardships and cannot wait for a 45, then 60 day review, only to be told to amend months from now, then have to wait 16 weeks.

Should I bite the bullet and just go ahead and amend my return now?

Since your e-filed return has been accepted by the IRS, you will be able to amend it. Please see How to amend (change or correct) a return you've already filed for more information.

I'm able to amend it, my question is if I should. I know that I should be asking this question to the IRS, but they are IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of, and when you do finally get ahold of someone, they either can't answer your question or tell you to wait 60 days to get you off the phone.

Amending your return now before your original return has been fully processed is likely to cause even further delays.  It is not a good idea to have more than one return in process at a time.
