Should I amend my 2018 return if I recorded income as "checks" but then received a MISC-1099 for this income after filing? The dollar amount is the same.

If there wasn't any difference in the amount and no other box was filled in on the 1099-Misc then you do not need to amend you 2018 return. As long as you included all your income correctly on your tax return there is no need to file an amendment in this case.
