refund from Turbotax

Hi there, I have already filed my taxes for 2022 which I just realized I didn't need to do as I didn't make the minimum income required to file. Is it possible to get a refund from Turbotax? The IRS also charged me a $100 fee for no reason which I just paid unnecessarily.

Thank you for your help.

No.  If you used the software and filed a tax return, you do not get a refund because you wish you had not filed.

You do not say what income you entered---but if you actually filed the return--- you used the software and you pay for that.

Thank you very much for your reply..

My income was around $9000 in 2022.. and this past year was much less than that as I only worked for 2 months. I was told that based on the questions I answer in Turbotax, they determine whether I would be exempt or not but I don't recall the question nor the response to my answer. I don't think I'll need to file for this year.

You do not say what kind of income you received.   If you had even $432 of earnings as an independent contractor you are required to file a tax return.    If you were a W-2 employee in 2023 and earn less than $13,850 (if you are single) then you are not required to file but if tax was withheld from your paychecks you would want to file to seek a refund of the federal and state tax that was withheld.   And....if you are between the ages of 25 and 65 you may be eligible for some earned income credit.

Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site
