You may have been confused.   TurboTax only gives your payment information to the state, then the state has to use that information to take the payment out of your account.  TT does not pay it for you.    And it is impossible to pay a state tax due from a federal refund.   TurboTax will not have a receipt for paying your state tax----TurboTax never even knows how, when or even if you paid.  Your only proof that you paid the state will be your own credit card or bank record.   Look at the printed page of filing instructions that prints out with your tax return to see what method you used to pay the state.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.
