when does the 2025 amend window open?

I e-filed my 2025 return and it has been accepted by the IRS. I identified that I forgot to add a deduction which lowered my tax bill. I went to "Your tax returns & documents" but the option to amend 2025 is not available.

Form 1040X has been available for quite awhile, so not sure why you are not able to find it.

But...do not try to amend until your original return has been fully processed.

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
