What's taking my refund so long? I have code 1541 on IRS site.

What is that? How can i do it and will that speed up the refund? I'd called 2 days ago and they told me my taxes are still in process that i need to wait because it hasn't been 21 days since i received my CP05 Notice dated March 4th.

I found out this morning that I have to do a 1040x. How long does this take and what is the process?? I’ve never been through this. I was told my wages and withholding are off and not by a lot but it’s incorrect and needs to be done again

@Ash1729 I believe that’s an amended form. And last I heard is u have to mail them unless they gave u a fax number. Hope they told u to fax. I’m not sure if u can do it electronically. If u have to mail I know it can take up to another 12 to 16 weeks.

Look up tax advocate. And they help u get ur money faster but u have to have a hardship

@Monty I see now what it is. But do you need to show proof of hardship? Have you done it before or for this 2018 refund?

@Candyqueen I have only did it this yr. I have never had problems like this. Yes usually u do have to show proof but if u tell them that u have to support ur little ones if u have kids or ur car has been broke down for months they don’t ask for proof. Just gotta blow smoke up their butts

Ohh ok I see thats a good option since i have 2 kids. But I just finished talking with my Tax Agent to tell him about my CP05 notice and he said to wait until I meet the 21 days reviewing period . He also said usually they will pick random people to review closely their refunds. He said the good thing as of right now they aren't requesting any further information from my side. He said wait and see they might give u a DDD or they might ask for more info. In case they keep ditching me i will go for the advocate option u just gave me. In the meantime I'm going to wait until April 4th which is the deadline for the 21 day period. @Monty

I found out by calling the advocate line and the first rep I talked to told me and she said I should hear back from a tax advocate by Wednesday but I’m hoping sooner than Wednesday. I am already talking with my tax lady to help me prepare the 1040x. Is it possible that I need to amend or will the irs fix it themselves? Will I get a refund or do I have to amend first?

That’s good I should get a call within a few days. I’m hoping for a call to in a couple days. He said within 10 days to me from the intake person. U will have to amend it first. Irs wont fix until u send that 1040x form in @Ash1729

The first person and intake person both told me that they are just waiting on verifiying my wages with the employers. So they said they need w2s from 2 employers.
