Turbotax 2024 will not print: STILL NOT SOLVED AT 2/2/25

Anna called me yesterday and took me through an agonizing workaround to finally print and save my SC forms. She claims the issue is a specific SC form that is not finalized -- SC1040ES Individual Declaration of Estimated Tax. From the screen she was using it will be available on March 6 but from this link that she sent me  --  https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_sc_online_individual.html  it will be available February 27. She didn't have an explanation for the discrepancy. At the end of a very lengthy conversation, Anna said it was a form availability issue outside of TT's control. She didn't have an answer to the question -- Why didn't TT provide a better response to alerting users to the problem? Anna called in response to me emailing the office of the president thanks to another TT user on this site. Hoping for smoother sailing next year -- assuming we will still have the IRS.

The link works -- got a call from Anna who helped me print and save my SC 2024 return. Seems the issue is due to form SC1040ES not being finalized. I have 2 possible dates for the form to be finalized = February 27 and March 6. Anna didn't have an explanation for TT's system showing 2 dates (dates supposedly coming from SC). Took a long time for Anna to help me get to print and save but she was extremely nice and helpful.

Anna is nice lady. Intuit needs to spend time to fix issue. 

She also took me through the same "agonizing" work around; which is unacceptable.

I'm using iMacOS Sequoia 15.3.1 and Safari browser.  The 2024 online version of TurboTax runs OK will not print the Federal instructions pages.  All other pages (Fed + State) print OK.  [Date: Feb. 25, 2025]

I've been using TurboTax for decades and never encountered this problem where a "part" of the print package does not print.  TurboTax support was not aware of the problem and was not successful in solving.

I encountered the unable to print or save to PDF issue using the "Print Returns" button in TurboTax 2024 on a Mac.  

I was able to select "File -> Save to PDF" from the menu bar at the top of the screen and it allowed me to save my return to my computer.  

Hopefully this works for others.

I have filed both state and federal and both have been accepted but I can not print the file.  All I get is a swirling many colored circle.  I have a Brother printer and it works for other documents.  Don’t know how to save it to a PDF as I have not seen it at all.  What do I do?

I recommend you first try this simple workaround, which was posted by bpayseno and others:

Work-around until Intuit fixes the print function.

1)  Use the "Save to PDF" option in the "File" menu of the desktop program and save a copy of your returns to location you can easily find on your computer.

2)  Open the PDF of your returns in your PDF reader program (acrobat, Preview, etc.) and use that program to print to your local printer.

^ That solution seems to work for most people now.

But if that doesn't work for you, then try this more cumbersome workaround, which I posted several weeks ago, and which mcotrona illustrated in a few posts above this one:

Here's how I eventually got my 2024 Tax Return to print (Mac Desktop with TurboTax Desktop Version, HP printer)...

1) With TurboTax open on my desktop and on the Save For Your Records tab ...

2) I clicked on "File" from the TurboTax menu in the top menu bar ...

3) Then I chose "Preview" at the bottom of the "File" dropdown menu ...

4) Upon doing that, a new Preview window opened up.

5) Ensure that "2024 Federal Tax Return" is checked on the left hand side of the new window.

6) Choose which 2024 Tax Return forms you'd like to print. (I stuck with the default labeled "Recommended forms & worksheets."

7) Click on the blue "Preview" button in the lower right of that same window.

8. Another new window will open up -- this one, at least on my computer, is a very tiny version of my entire 2024 Federal Tax Return.

9) Put your cursor over the tiny preview window (ie, over your mini-tax return). A small 4-item menu will appear (if it's not already there).

10) Click on the little icon to the left of the download arrow. (The download arrow on the far right of that 4-item menu did not function properly for me. It would not download the preview.) The icon you should click on looks like an ink bottle in front of a square piece of paper.

11) Now, a new window will open up in the "Preview" app. In my case, the new document that opened up had a strange document name with six letters and numbers followed by "-Unknown.pdf." I changed the document's name to my own choosing prior to taking the next step so that I could find my file after I saved it.

12) Now, from the Preview menu in the top menu bar, Click on "File."

13) Click on "Print" at the bottom of that "File" menu.

14) You will now be able to Save your TurboTax return as a PDF ... and/or ... you will be able to Print your TurboTax return.

15) Phew. That's a lot of work, TurboTax! You need to do better.

Saving to a PDF from the File menu worked for me on the Mac.  Then print it.  Thanks!

Save to PDF does not work on my Mac OS Ventura 13.7.4.  The Print Preview technique is the only method that works, and it's suitable for my immediate needs to have a PDF copy of filed returns.  

Intuit needs to fix their product and pressure the QA team to improve their test cases.

I missed the paper and inkwell icon on the print preview screen while hovering and didn't know that when clicked it creates a PDF.  Thanks for that information.  I have Mac OS Ventura 13.7.1 (22H221) and the Save to PDF... on the File menu did work for me. 

Turbo Tax Premier downloaded a new version today, 2/27/25, but that didn't fix the Print Returns button issue.  Good to know that there are a couple of workarounds thanks to the community member postings. 

I hope the Intuit QC staff is more diligent on testing the functions that crunch the numbers.  😉

Yup, I'm still having the same problems. However I found this workaround from another member / community post that worked for me:

dumetella Jan 28 2025: 

"Here's a workaround I found. In TurboTax under the File menu, select Preview. A small window will open showing your return, but the only option is to Close. However, if you hover your mouse over the return, there is an open in Adobe Reader icon just to the right of the magnifying glasses. Click that and Reader opens. From there you can print."
