I recently filed my taxes, and put that I was claimed as a dependent by someone else. However, I realize that I am not going to be claimed as a dependent by someone else, and would like to amend my taxes.
My main question is, if I amend my taxes for 2019, will I still be eligible for the COVID-19 stimulus check? Since dependents don't receive any money, If I put that I was claimed as a dependent by someone else, I will get nothing. Like I said, though, nobody else is claiming me as a dependent. Will it be too late if I amend my taxes now? Or are they consistently sending out stimulus checks once people file their taxes?

The box you checked says "Can someone else claim you as a dependent?" It doesn't say did someone else claim you as a dependent. If you met the requirements to be claimed as a dependent but whoever could claim you chose not to, they still could have claimed you.
If you just made a mistake checking the box, then you can prepare, print and mail an amended return to uncheck the box. Do not uncheck it before you start the amended return. An amended return takes 16 weeks to process in normal times.
I can't specifically answer your question about whether the IRS will send a stimulus check after you amend but it would seem that they should.
I don't believe I could be claimed as a dependent by someone else, I'm over 24 and pay for the majority of my expenses.
Sounds like I'll have to amend my taxes, then. Thank you!
If anyone has an answer about the stimulus check portion of the question, please provide any information you can.
