You will not be able to claim your child on a tax return without a Social Security number.   Sort out the problem with Social Security before you file a return.   If necessary, get an extension that will allow you to wait until mid-October to file your tax return so that you can get the SSN and file correctly to get the child tax credit etc.

There is not a way to claim a dependent without a Social Security number or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number).

If you do not have a required SSN by the filing due date, you can file Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, for an extension of time to file.

This IRS Publication states:

You must show the social security number (SSN) of any dependent you list in the Dependents section of your Form 1040 or 1040-SR. If you don't show the dependent's SSN when required or if you show an incorrect SSN, certain tax benefits may be disallowed.

No SSN

If a person whom you expect to claim as a dependent on your return does not have an SSN, either you or that person should apply for an SSN as soon as possible by filing Form SS-5, Application for a Social Security Card, with the Social Security Administration (SSA).

You can get Form SS-5 online at SSA.gov/ forms/ss-5.pdf or at your local SSA office. It usually takes about 2 weeks to get an SSN once the SSA has all the information it needs. If you do not have a required SSN by the filing due date, you can file Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, for an extension of time to file.

Are you saying that the child does not have a Social Security number?  Or does your child have a Social Security number but the name is incorrect?  If the child has a Social Security number but an incorrect name, you may claim the dependent under the name on the Social Security card.

the deadline to amend your 2018 tax return for a refund is April 15th.

You'd better get busy.

the other years you can amend after taking care of 2018.

@zacharysaldivars You say you did not file a 2018 tax return----did you have taxable income to enter on a 2018 return?  Especially----did you have income earned from working?   Were you claimed as someone else's dependent for 2018?     You mentioned that your child was born in 2018.    If you have some income to enter on a 2018 return you need to get that return filed by April 15, 2022 or any refund you can get will be forfeited.

I did not have any kind of income in 2018 and my son was born in December no one used me as a dependent and I did not file because I did not have income when you say forfeited what do you mean by that should I file for that year even if I did not have income

@zacharysaldivars Then, no, you have no reason to file a 2018 tax return.   I was worried that you might lose out on any child-related credits for 2018.   But if you did not work or earn any income you would not be eligible for any child-related credits on a 2018 tax return.   You do not need to worry about filing for 2018.
