I put the wrong answer in HSA distributions. I did not take a distribution but Turbo Tax will not let me edit or change that answer or remove that amount. HELP!

I say I withdrew the entire amount as a distribution.  I did not understand the question and answered it wrong.  I used it all for medical expenses.  How do I change the answer or edit it or remove that amount?  I do not want to have to start over on this return.  How do I fix my mistake and error.  None of my HSA is taxable but I answered wrong and it is being counted as income.  HELP?

You do not have to start over again.  We can clear this entry out.

There are two ways to clear entries from your return.

The first thing to try is to go into the section that has the form  (Less Common Income)

  1. Select the entry that you want to clear.
  2. On the right hand side there is a trash can.
  3. Select the trash can and confirm you want to delete that form.

 To Delete a form:

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
    1. My Info
    2. Federal
    3. State
    4. Review
    5. File
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop down select Tools
  4. On the Pop-Up menu select Delete a Form
  5. This will give you all of the forms in your return
  6. Scroll down to the form you want to delete
  7. Select the Form
  8. Click on Delete.

Always use extreme caution when deleting from your tax return.  There could be unintended consequences.

I saw this and became totally stoked on the possibilities that my dilemma may soon be nearing an end. But alas, it continues as there are no trash cans in my sector of 1099R-- Early withdrawals --Form 8915-- Underpayment liability --Form 2210. My state employment account closed when I reached 60 and a lump sum payment distributed. At about or near the same time, I lost my job due to program operational criteria closure and transferred to another department in the organization. Covid was still the rage and everyone was someway affected. My mistake, misinterpreting the question and clicking the wrong box. We have no trash cans in the sections and the forms say I am not required to use them, as it was my account that began this quest.

Can someone guide us out from this entanglement?

Yes, everything you enter in TurboTax can be corrected or deleted. Your issue isn't very clear in this post, but it sounds like you said you need Form 8915, but you don't. If that is correct, you can try deleting Form 8915:

  1. Open your return and select Federal.
  2. Select Tax Tools near the bottom of the left side menu.
  3. On the drop down select Tools.
  4. On the Pop-Up menu select Delete a Form.
  5. This will give you all of the forms in your return.
  6. Scroll down to the form you want to delete, click Delete to the right and then confirm your delete.

If this doesn't resolve your issue, please respond back with details of what you are trying to do.
