I filed my paper federal return on March 16, 2020 and have not received direct deposit refund yet...nearly 3 months later. Can I now submit an e-file return ?

IRS website shows:"Payment Status Not Available"   Is my return lost?  Should I e-file now, or will this cause major confusion?

Your tax return is not lost. It's one of the 10 million pieces of unopened mail sitting in large trailers that are parked outside the IRS processing centers, which are closed.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic the IRS is currently not processing tax returns that were filed by mail. When they start to process them again they will have reduced staff and a huge backlog, so it will be quite a while before your tax return is processed or any status information is available.

Do not e-file now. It is likely to cause confusion.
