The request for DD may not have been possible  for many reasons ...

According to the IRS' website there are 3 reasons why you may be getting a mailed check instead of direct deposit as you requested. They are as follows:

  • We can only deposit refunds electronically into accounts in your own name, your spouse's name or in a joint account.
  • A financial institution may reject a direct deposit.

We can’t deposit more than three electronic refunds into a single financial account.

I file my taxes to get direct deposit and I entered my rounding and account numbers and now I’m getting my taxes through mail , why if I put my account/rounting numbers

Hello.

For the purpose of updating direct deposit information with the IRS, is it possible to e-file with Turbotax Deluxe and enter my current routing info even though I'm not receiving a refund?

Thanks in advance.

@429664 If you are not expecting a refund, the TurboTax program will not prompt you for direct deposit information. However, if your question is related to the anticipated stimulus payments, the details of those payments has not been finalized yet. The IRS asks you to check their website Coronavirus Tax Relief for updates. You can also is visit the TurboTax Corona Virus Tax Center for updates as well. Once things are finalized we will be able to provide more guidance.

@MichelleLO Thank you for your thoughtful reply.

Yes, I realize all's not finalized. When it is, though, the quickest way is via direct deposit. Otherwise, it's more like 6-8 weeks via USPS.

Is there a way to enter my routing information "manually," rather than by prompt? Or is this a function of Turbotax not allowing you to do it at all if there isn't a refund?

Thanks again.

@429664 At this time, there is no way to update or add direct deposit information for the stimulus check. However, details are still being worked on and once things are finalized, more information will then be provided. You can continue to check the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus for any updates.

@EbonyL122824 @MichelleLO Thank you both.

Appreciate the links. I've read them.

Regardless of when everything get's finalized, having up-to-date routing information will ensure a quick direct deposit, rather than 6-8 weeks wait time if regular mail is required if direct deposit info is either out of date or not available. Since the IRS will go by either 2018 filing info or 2019 (if you've filed), I'd like to update what the IRS has on my current routing info and do it as quickly as possible via e-file.

Ques.: is it possible to bypass the Turbotax Deluxe prompts (or lack thereof) and "manually" enter routing information in a worksheet somewhere that will then populate the direct deposit fields when e-filing? Or is such a workaround not possible in Turbotax Deluxe?

Thank you.
