Has anyone else filed and refund accepted on Jan 29 and still haven’t received refund

Mine was accepted Feb 1st and still shows processing. Been wondering what the deal was. Every time I try calling IRS I never get to talk to a human.

If you had EIC on your return, this caused a delay in your refund processing due to the Path Act.

You can track your return by checking the Where's My Refund website located here

If you elected to have your fees deducted from your refund, the IRS will send your return to Santa Barbara Bank, where they will deduct the fees and then deposit any remaining refund into your account.

@FlashDad  The IRS started processing returns later than in prior years and as such has a backlog to work through. They also just recently started processing returns claiming EIC and/or ACTC.

During processing, the government reviews your refund. During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

If they need to make any corrections, they may offset (reduce) your refund. In some cases, the correction might even increase your refund.

Once that part's done, the government approves your refund, which means it's ready to be deposited or sent.  At that point the IRS site will update with a direct deposit date.

There are many people experiencing this long delay unfortunately.

If you claimed  EIC or Additional Child Tax Credit, here is a link that customers are posting on with updates: Path Act Customer updates.

The IRS no longer processes returns in first in first out batches. They are processed individually so returns sent in at the same time will not necessarily process together. The IRS states that 9 of 10 returns will process in 21 days or less. However considering that the IRS processes more than 140 million returns that means 14 million will be delayed for more than 21 days.

If it's been more than 90 days since the return was accepted  then you can ask for help from the Tax Payer Advocate office: Taxpayer Advocate Service

@lawinkler70  If you set up direct debit to pay any taxes owed, you can call the IRS or your state government to cancel your scheduled payment.  Since the IRS extended the deadline to July 15, 2020, you can choose to pay at a later date.

If you have not received your refund and it was filed and accepted on 1/29, there is a problem.  Since there are multiple reasons for not receiving a refund, you should start by contacting the IRS.  They should be able to give you specifics regarding your refund, including any hold on the refund, the reason for the hold and what to expect.  If you are a experiencing a hardship, you can also contact the National Taxpayer Advocate Office for assistance.  They will initiate a case and assign a case advocate to assist you with the refund issue
