Hello,
We had a multi-property out-of-state 1031 exchange and the FTB 3840 in TurboTax did not allow for more than 3 properties, so we did not complete the form in the TurboTax program.
Instead we manually completed the FTB 3840 with all the additional Schedule A's, scanned it, and then combined it with the PDF that is required for filing the 1065, i.e. Form 8453-PE.
Will the state of California be able to see this TurboTax PDF attachment or do we need to print and mail a duplicate California state return with all the FTB 3840/Schedule A's?
Please advise since I will need to snail mail it ASAP if necessary.
Thank you!

I highly recommend that you print and mail your CA return ASAP.
There is simply no guarantee that the combined attachment will be in a format that the CA FTB will be able to read (by machine, most likely) or if the attached CA forms will even make it to the FTB at all.
The safest approach would be to mail the CA return.

Thank you! Do I need to print the entire state return or can I just mail the FTB 3840 and Schedule A's?
Also, when printing do I need to print everything single sided for them or can I keep it double sided?
You can print the forms either way.
Thank you!!
