E-Filed but did not realize it did not use last years earned income

Good Evening,

I e-filed my 2020 returns. However when I went back in to check something I did not catch that it reverted back to using this years Unemployment amount. I was prompted during my children/family information to use last years Earned income (before Covid and lost employment) by doing that it changed my refund and gave me more in Federal and owed less in state.  However like I said when I went back in later I’m not sure why but it did not save that info. I was distracted by my children when I was filling out e-file information and when it e-filed showing the original information. I went back in after and saw that the info was indeed changed back to original information and not using last years earned income. I’m so upset I did not catch it. I have been searching for answers. Only thing I see is once accepted do an amendment.  Is this something easy I can do? Does it take a long time for Federal to review and reissue ?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, you are not able to make changes to your return once it has been submitted. To make corrections or changes to your pending return, wait until your return's either been accepted or rejected by the IRS.

You may need to amend your return. Please click Do I need to amend? to learn more.
