Hi,
I have a quick question. So, when I first filed my taxes, I accidentally did not check the dependent box, and my tax return got filed as an independent. Whereas my parents filed me as their dependent. My parents' tax return got rejected because of it.
I just amended my tax return after receiving the amount, and put myself as the dependent. However, seems like it would take some time for my amended tax return to be included in the system. My parents tried redoing their taxes, but it got rejected again, because I think my amended tax return needs time to get uploaded.
What should we do? Can my parents remove me as a dependent and file their taxes? Will it affect my newly amended tax return?
I would be grateful for the help!
Thanks.

Your parents can still claim you as a dependent. To be able to electronically file their return, they must include an IP PIN for you. Per the IRS, if you are under 18 or cannot setup an ID.me account you can submit Form 15227, Application for an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number online. The phone number provided on the form will be used to contact you to verify your identity before an IP PIN can be issued.
Once you get it, see the steps below for them to enter it on their return:
