Amended Return

I filed our 2019 Taxes in February of 2019.  In April of 2020 I received a I received a Schedule K-1 I did not know we were getting.  I filed an amended return in July of 2020 and enclosed a check for the amount due.  The check was cashed in October of 2020. Today, March 15th, 2021 we received a refund of the amount we sent along with interest earned.  I'm guessing the paperwork hasn't been processed. I'm inclined to cash the check, take copies and document everything and wait for the IRS to bill me.  I don't want to pay interest to the IRS.  If I have done my due diligence, copied all pertinent documents can the IRS charge us interest?  What should I do.

Amended Return

You should have received a letter with the check showing the corrects they made that resulted in the refund.  It's possible the letter will come separately from the check, so I would wait a couple days to see if you receive something.  If not, I would contact the IRS at 800-829-1040.

Amended Return

I did not receive any explanation with the check.  I have heard that the IRS is way behind. The check is the exact amount plus interest for the additional taxes we owe. When I login to our IRS account activity page it incorrectly shows two payments of the same amended amount due, both posted on the same day.  I feel like the paperwork went one direction and hasn't been processed yet and the check went another direction and since the amended return does not show they think it is a refund.
