I filed my 2021 return showing some tax due, and paid via EFT from my bank checking account.
Subsequently I found an error that reduced my taxes, and amended my return. Will the IRS refund me the overpayment, or is there something else I must do to get back the overpayment?
Thanks in advance.

Your original return will be processed separately from your amended return. The IRS will take out the amount of taxes owed shown on your original return.
If your Amended return reduces the amount you owe, then it should show a refund. You can e-file your amended return and if you are due a refund the IRS will send it to you in a check.

Check the status of your Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, for this year and up to three prior years.

Looking at my amended return data, I see that now (d'oh!). Thank you.
