I did our daughter's taxes and come to find out, failed to check the box stating someone else can claim as a dependent, which gave her the 3rd stimulus back in her taxes (I should have known this was an error on my part at the time). I then tried to file our taxes, but it was rejected with "A Dependent SSN in the return must not be the same as the Primary or Spouse SSN on another return where 'PrimaryClaimAsDependentInd' or 'SpouseClaimAsDependentInd' is not checked." error due to not checking the box on our daughters taxes.
I finally got our daughter's taxes amended this week with the dependent box checked and her amended return was accepted. Tonight I try to e-file our taxes again, but was rejected yet again.
At the bottom of Turbo Tax is says, If the dependent information is correct and you want to file this return electronically, they can not be claimed on this return. If you want to keep the dependent on this return, you will have to print the return and file by mail. So there is no other way to file our taxes other than to mail them in?
Thanks.

Even though you have amended your child's return, you cannot e-file at all this year. Her SSN will remain in the system now. It will be months before the IRS processes her amended return. You have to print sign and mail your return that claims her as your dependent.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Oh---and your daughter will have to pay back that $1400.
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that since her amended return was accepted, I could e-file ours. Guess that's not the case. I wanted to make sure I was understanding correctly that we had to mail ours in.
And yes, I knew the $1400 would have to be repaid.
Thanks.
