Please clarify what you meant. It's confusing as to whether you successfully efiled or not. Were you able to complete the efile or unable to complete the efile? You said "able to complete the efile", but was that a typo?
In any case, what product are you using--Online TurboTax or desktop software (CD/download?) Fees are structured quite differently in Online TurboTax (web version) and the desktop software.
Since you mentioned $49, I suspect you may be using Online TurboTax. In Online TurboTax there is a $49 fee to prepare a state return--no matter if it's efiled or printed and mailed. There is no efile fee in Online TurboTax--just a preparation charge.
In desktop TurboTax, however, there is a $25 fee to efile a state return, except there is no state efile fee for New York state.
So far your issue is not clear. If that was a typo in your question, and you are unable to efile a state return, if you explain that in more detail and what the roadblock is, someone in this user community forum might be able to help you efile it.
