NY State refund discrepancy

I used TurbTax electronic filing for my NY State return. Our 2019 refund calculated to be $740. The numbers were verified. Our return was accepted by the state. When we received our refund $180.40 was deposited in our account, a discrepancy of $559.60.

When I tried contacting the NYS Tax Dept the phone lines were tied up for hours. When I tried contacting them on line they asked for my SS# and amount of refund. I keyed in as requested. The response was that one or the other numbers that I keyed in was wrong. I tried 3-4 times with the same results.

Can you please verify the Electronic filing number assigned by TurbTax?

Thank you,
Peter

NY State refund discrepancy

" The numbers were verified. Our return was accepted by the state. "  That really only means you had enough data entered so that the state would accept the return for processing.   It does not mean the amounts you used were accurate or that they would be approved by the state.

TurboTax never knows about adjustments or changes made to your refund by the IRS or the state

The state will send you a letter explaining the change.  TurboTax does not get any feedback from your state after your return is accepted, so no one at TT knows why your state refund was less.   Did you owe back taxes, child support, or student loans?  Traffic fines, etc.?

Not sure that it will help you with NY but if you print out your return there is a page with the electronic postmark showing when you e-filed.
