Can I add dependent, whom I cannot add in Federal Tax because she made $8,000, in CA state return

My 25 year old daughter filed her tax returns but in her fed return she checked that no one will claim her as dependent.

I cannot claim her as my dependent in my federal return because she made $8,000. Can I claim her as my dependent in my California state return? She lives at home and doesn't pay anything.

No, California has the same qualifications for dependents as the federal.

The dependents you claim on your California return are usually the same as those you claim on your federal return.

You can claim a California dependent only if you meet the following conditions:

-The person is eligible to be your federal dependent.

-You didn't claim them so they could get a tax break for education expenses on their own federal return.

So to be clear. If I didn't claim my child as a dependent on my Federal return, solely so they could file on their own to get the American Opportunity Tax Credit, I am allowed to claim that child as a dependent on my California return, right?
