Did you e-file already? If you e-filed, amending your return is more than a month away. It is too soon. Form 1040X will not be available until late February.
Or did you just mess up and not file yet? Please explain what all you have done so we will know how to help.
No I did not mess up. Had to enlist assistance of Rep from Intuit. Spent almost an hour on phone being assisted deleting data that the system would not allow me to delete myself. I had completed my tax filing and was ready to submit to IRS, but for whatever reason the system automatically doubled my 2024 and 2025 RMD withdrawals, and threw my entire form into a tailspin. Rep advised me to put off doing anything more for about a week.
@moranja So your return has NOT yet been e-filed? Then do not even think about clicking the word "amend." You do not use the process to amend if your return has not been filed, accepted and fully processed by the IRS. Amending is done on a special form--1040X-- only after your incorrect return has been fully processed.
Sounds like you reached help with customer support and received advice to hold off on e-filing until you have the issue fully sorted out.
Yes you are correct. Perhaps I should not have used the word "amend" which has obviosly caused some alarm. All I wanted to do was delete the misleading and incorrect data the system was putting up, without any prompting from myself I might add, and start all over again. Inuit as already processed my payment for the filing that never happened. Been filing my taxes through Intuit for many years. This is the first time I had to put in so much time and effort while knowing I am getting so little in return.
