"Need to change amounts on return."
You'll need to explain more. Has your return already been filed, and if efiled, was it accepted? If so, was it due a Federal refund, and have you received the refund?
Or is the return still in preparation, and do you need to make some corrections prior to filing?
What kind of changes?
I put the wrong rent for the year on my refund and submitted it
You can always correct a posting to your tax return by doing an amendment, but before you do that you should look at a few other things.
Have your returns been ACCEPTED or do they still say PENDING. If the returns are ACCEPTED you should wait until you get your refund before you file the amended return. Things can get confused if the two return cross each other.
You said RENT. I expect that this is rent you paid and not rent from a rental property. There is no deduction on your Federal return for rent you pay. Therefore, I expect that any change would only be for the state.
If you used TurboTax Online, simply log in to your account and select “Amend a return that was filed and accepted.” If you used our CD/download product, sign back into your return and select “Amend a filed return.” You must file a separate Form 1040X for each tax return you are amending. Please see Amend a Return
I need to reduce the taxable amount of an IRA distribution on my return, and I cannot find a way to do that before I file
I have not filed my return. I want to make the change before I file, but TurboTax enters the gross distribution and I need to reduce that to the taxable distribution from my IRA.
You have to go back through the form 1099-R entry as follows:
1. Go the the "Federal" section in TurboTax
2. Click on "Income and Expenses"
3. Find "Retirement Plans and Social Security"
4. Click on "IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099-R)"
5.Click on the "Edit" box next to the 1099-R entry you want to change

Before you change anything, Look at your tax return, Form 1040. On Line 4a is the Gross Distribution from the IRA as shown in box 1 of the Form 1099-R. On Line 4b is the taxable amount of the Distribution from the IRA as shown in the box 2a of the Form 1099-R.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
