My wife passed away and I forgot about her mothers estate settling. I have filed the 2020 taxes and received my refund direct deposited. About a week after receiving the refund my brother in law brings over a K1 form to claim an additional $45,000 interest on the estate of my deceased wife's mother. I put it all into the form and it shows i owe now $5,500. My question is i don't think the 1040X is available yet on Turbo Tax for 2020, when to file it, and if it can be sent electronic and check mailed separately. And finally the direct deposit refund check doing the 1040X is included in the new balance due, or if it's mine or they will seek to have it returned in the future. Randy
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
As your tax return is accepted and you have received your refund, you will need to amend your return to include the Form W-2.
Feel free to cash or spend your refund while your amendment gets processed. It will not be reclaimed by the IRS. The tax payable on your amended return already takes that refund into account
Please be aware that Form 1040X will not be available in TurboTax until March 25, 2021, but once it is available, you will be able to prepare and e-file your amended return.
Please see this TurboTax FAQ for instructions on how to amend your tax return in TurboTax.
This year, you will be able to e-file your return and pay the taxes on your amended return by direct withdrawal.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I will wait for the 1040X to be on Turbo Tax. I assume on filing the 1040X through Turbo Tax it will electronically send it and also ask for a bank routing and account or will it allow
for a credit card payment. Again thank you for your reply. Randy
