My return was accepted on 1/29, as of today, 2/14 my tax transcript on the irs site states “ Your 2023 Tax Return Is Not Processed”. Why would it say this?

Same. It should be updated now on Where’s My Refund. I just checked mine and it’s finally up.

My return was accepted on 1/29, as of today, 2/14 my tax transcript on the irs site states “ Your 2023 Tax Return Is Not Processed”. Why would it say this?

Yes,  The IRS has stated that the typical time to process a tax return is 21 days, but there may be delays for many reasons.

Be sure that your return status is Accepted

  • It should not show Pending, or Rejected
  • The return will also have to be processed.
  • Therefore there may be a time delay between Accepted and issuing the refund.

You will need:

  • Social Security Number.
  • Tax return year.
  • Hilling Status.
  • Exact refund amount

Please click here to enter your information         Check Your Refund .

  • However, if you mailed your return and expect a refund, it could take four weeks or more to process your return.
  • In addition some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:
    • Contains errors or is incomplete
    • Needs further review in general
    • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
    • Was referred to the IRS by the bank due to suspicious activity
    • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
    • Includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, which could take up to 14 weeks to process
    • And I'm sure a host of other issues

The IRS  processes most refunds from e-filed returns in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.

To check the status of your refund:

  1. Check your e-file status.
  2. If it's been accepted, track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site.
    • You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status, which you'll find on the first screen after signing in to TurboTax.
    • If you mailed your return, wait 4 weeks after mailing your return before using the tool.
  3. If it's rejected, fix your return and file it again.
  4. If it's pending, wait until your return is accepted.

If it's been more than 21 days since your e-filed return was accepted, you can call the IRS directly to check on your refund status.

And I asked, why isn’t there anything on the IRS website or the regular website that they did my taxes on no updates or nothing

My federal was accepted on the 23 on January and when I go to irs to check it’s stuck on return received. My state was accepted almost a whole month later on Feb 31 and that one is being reviewed so idk what to do.

Just to be clear.  If your taxes are Accepted it is a good thing.

It means that their were no technical errors like Social Security Numbers that were wrong.

It also means that TurboTax does not have any control of your  return.

If you are being told that it's still in process, the IRS has not finished checking it out.

The IRS has stated that the typical time to process a tax return is 21 days, but there may be delays for many reasons.

TurboTax can only project the time to get your refund.  The IRS has the real control.

You can check the status of your tax return.  You will need:

  • Social Security Number.
  • Tax return year.
  • Hilling Status.
  • Exact refund amount

Please click here to enter your information         Check Your Refund .

If you wish to contact the IRS, you can call toll-free at 1-800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.

  • It should not show Pending, or Rejected
  • The return will also have to be processed.
  • Therefore there may be a time delay between Accepted and issuing the refund.

Other reasons your refund can be delayed

  • If you mailed your return and expect a refund, it could take four weeks or more to process your return.
  • In addition some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:
    • Contains errors or is incomplete

If you've exhausted all of the steps above, the only one that knows the true status of your tax return is the IRS.

If you are really concerned it may be worth giving them a call.

You can call toll-free at 1-800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.
