An amended return must be printed, ink signed and mailed in ... until you do this it is not filed.
The program will always say "in progress" since it never knows if you have mailed in the return. If you have not yet finished or mailed in the amended return then open the account and follow the instructions in the FILE tab to print the return.
I have mailed it TWICE but I'm confused because when I go to hit "Download/Print return" it brings up a $0 amount for everything. So I feel like I sent in the wrong papers. I need turbo-tax to send me a copy of my amended return and all the information I see because with me hitting download/print return, it's not the correct information. I've called 3 different times and I'm getting annoyed because I'm not getting the help I need. I need a copy of my amended return.
If you keep clicking on the amendment process instead of opening the return then you are overwriting the original amended return each time ... so if all you see in column B is zeros then that is what you have done. Only you can download the return you filed or correct the mistake you made ... and when you do get the return SAVE the PDF to your computer for future reference don't just view it.
See if you can undo your mistake this way :
I have clicked it multiple times trying to get the document so thank you for specifying that I am messing up. It would be a lot easier if there was a button that said "print amended return". So I went and canceled the amended return now where can I go to get all my amended return information because when i hit download/print return it is still saying $0 when it should say $3,177 refund from federal and a balance due of $246 to my state I am in. I understand I've messed up somewhere but I'm just trying to get it fixed because my state took out money before i fixed my amended return and it was double the amount I owe now and they are saying they have no record of the $246 amount I owe and I can't find the documents to print it but I'm sitting here staring at the numbers of what I owe and what I need to get refunded.
Ok ... if you undo the amendment and the return doesn't go back to the original then you may need to redo the entries to get the original return back ... use the PRINT CENTER to view the return at will and print at the end.
State Amendments
The best way to "unamend" your state return is to go through your state return from the beginning and keep your eyes peeled for amend-related screens or questions.
The amend question usually appears right at the beginning or towards the end of the state interview (never in the middle).
Correct any entries that have to do with an amended return, e.g.:
PRINT CENTER :
Only when your return is as it was originally should you start the amendment process.
Now that you know what you did wrong, if you need additional help contact support again and let them know what you did and where you are in the system so they can help.
OKay okay, I think I fixed it... I've been trying to fix this for 2 months so thank you for all your help !! And if I did this correctly, then on my Return form the 1040, I go down and on the second page it says "Refund" and shows lines 20 "3,177" and line 21a "3,177". Which is the amount is shows on my amended return page. Is there anything I need to do now since I have fixed this, like should I mail a copy of my return to federal and the state I am in ?
Look at the form 1040X …
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
In the FILE tab choose to mail in the amended return then the filing instructions and mailing address will be presented ... you need to attach an forms or schedules that were changed to support the column B entries.
On the 1040-X form, my line 16 shows nothing, on line 18 is shows "3,177" but on line 19 it shows " -3,177". Line 20, 21, and 22 show nothing. The explanation I put was "Checking to make sure everything was right" but I put this explanation when I tried to go into my amended return so I wonder if I clicked amended return and it brought it down to $0 and i submitted that. Like when you said if I click that then it overwrote my original amended return and I then submitted one of the times I overwrote it... because I remember my original explanation said "I added a W-2". So I have reallly messed up because column A and B shows nothing. It is all blank .
