I filed my 2023 taxes already as married filing jointly. It got accepted by the IRS and I received my refund already. My husband's employer sent notice that they made a correction to everyone's W2 and will be sending out a corrected W2 soon (they entered the wrong employer contribution to HSA), so I'll most likely have to file an amended return.
I had a name change when I got married in 2023 and went through the steps to notify SSA and received my new SSA card in Fall 2023 . Both of my 2023 1099-SA forms that I used to file my taxes still reflected my old last name, but I just recently got a 'Corrected' 1099-SA for one of them that shows my new last name AFTER I just filed my 2023 taxes. I contacted the other HSA company and was told they can't provide a Corrected 1099-SA with my new name since they 'closed' the account already (I had money from that HSA transferred to my newer HSA company).
My question is, since I'm going to file an Amended return (because of my husband), do I need to make changes to my own 1099-SA info when I Amend since it's technically 'Corrected' (but it's just my name that's corrected, the amounts haven't changed)? Or will I be fine? I just want to make sure I don't get penalized if the names on my tax forms don't match up with my current last name that I filed taxes with.

As long as the tax liability is correct, you can explain and prove any name issues. You should only make corrections for dollar amounts at this time.

Got it, so no changes needed on my end when filing the amended return, thanks!! To clarify, I would only ever have to explain/prove name issues IF there’s a random audit by IRS that asks for proof/reason why the names don’t match, correct?
That is correct. And, since your name changed due to marriage, a marriage license is sufficient to prove name change.
