Is turbo tax online only for 1 federal and 1 state return? The disc lets you file multiple fed returns and charge for each state return you download.

Right.  Online is different.  Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version

Thats why if you need to do more than 1 return we recommend you buy the Desktop CD/Download program.  It can do unlimited returns and efile 5 for free.  And you can buy a lower version.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.

And if you used the Desktop program before you may not like the Online version.  There are several differences.

If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the online version.  It has less features and no Forms Mode.  You can only do 1 return.  Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2019 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done.  In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

If you want to use the program again, You can switch your Online file to the Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your info.
