Is there any information available about the expected timeline for processing amended returns? It’s been almost 21 weeks since I submitted my amended return.

It seems like there are significant delays and I’ve been some information on places like Reddit that it could be as late as next year due to delays. Just wondering what more official sources might say.

The IRS official time to process an amendment is still 16 weeks. 

What you see on Reddit is people's opinions.  The IRS is working as quickly as possible to process the millions of returns that are behind.   Some of those posters are IRS employees or people who are acquainted with IRS employees.

Currently Amended returns are taking six months or longer to process so all you can do is wait and check the IRS is “where is my amended?”  return tool once a week until you see a progress report.

4 months in normal times. these are e not normal times. could take 6 months or more. it all depends on when the IRS gets to it and exactly what was changed. some changes have to be reviewed by agents which can further delay any refund
