If you are selecting to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, you will not get the option to select a paper check. The reason for this is because the IRS will mail the paper check directly to you, so there would be no way to have the fees taken from that check before it's sent to you. Direct deposit is required if you are choosing to have the TurboTax fees taken out of your refund.

If you prefer to get a paper check, you will need to remove the option to have the fees taken out of your return and pay for your TurboTax fees with either a credit or debit card, and then you will get option to select to receive a paper check.

Here's how to remove the refund processing service:

If you are using the refund processing service and are not being offered the CARD as an option then there must be a reason the return doesn't qualify ... is your refund sufficient to cover the TT fees + the processing charge of $40 + your state's sales tax ?    If you have a card from last year you can put the refund on it ... you would enter the card's routing & account numbers just like a checking account.

May I make a suggestion ... go to any store and buy a prepaid Visa debit card for $5 and put just enough on it to pay the TT fees then use it to also receive the refund as a Direct Deposit from the IRS.  This will save you $35 this way.
