Here is an FAQ about handling identity verification requests from the IRS.
Doesn't quite address the question. I got a notice saying my tax refund was accepted. I waited and today is the estimated day for me to see the refund. So I checked the status using the irs site and it then requested for me to verify my identity and that they would be mailing me a letter to do so. What I'm asking is since I never recurve anything from the irs will this delay the refund further or will this only apply to me checking the status?
You will receive a letter in the mail and then need to verify your identity before the IRS will release your refund.
