I want to amend my 2017 tax return to include my son's tuition costs from 2017. Does he have to Amend his return also?

My 18 year old son included his college tuition cost in his 2017 taxes, but it ended up not affecting his return. We both used Turbo Tax. I want to instead amend my 2017 return to include his tuition costs.  Does he have to Amend his 2017 return also?

If there is no change in his tax liability there is no need to amend his return.
