TO CANCEL A TAX PAYMENT YOU SCHEDULED

If your return was accepted, you cannot change your payment method  or payment date.  The only thing you can do is cancel the payment and then pay by a different method on your own.

  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to ask about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

No, if you pay now with the auto direct debit, you will have paid twice.  You can cancel your Direct Debit and then go on the IRS website (& State) to make the payment.

You can't change your payment date in TurboTax after your return has been accepted, but you can cancel it and make other payment arrangements with the IRS. Federal tax direct debit payments can be canceled up to two business days prior to the debit date.  Call the IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 or contact your state tax agency.

If you have already filed the 2022 tax return, you will have to cancel the direct debit from your bank account that you requested.
