I received two refunds but its not the amount I was expecting?

I was advised I would get around 1600 for my tax return. I saw 404 come back from the Franchise tax board (with the deduction from Turbo tax or it would have been like 520). Then I see another random one for  534 from TPG PRODUCTS. That does not equal 1600. Is there going to be a 3rd installment sent to me? or should I be contacting someone?

Federal and state are completely separate.  They come from different places at different times.  Franchise Tax Board is your state refund.  They don't take the fees out of a state refund.  So that's all you are getting.  The state will mail you a letter saying what they changed.

You can only have the fees deducted from a federal refund.  TPG is the 3rd party bank your refund goes through to take out the fees.  If the IRS reduced your federal refund they will mail you a letter.

Check each tax return.  How much refund for federal and for state?

Thank you for your quick response. I know they are two different funds, but they are not correct. My state was supposed to be 520, but I only got 404 so something was deducted. Then my Federal is supposed to be 1,081 but I only got 500 and something. Should I be calling the federal to find out how 600 is missing?

If you did not receive a letter yet, watch for one from both the state and federal government. A couple reasons could be:

  1. You owed back taxes, child support, student loans or something else that caused your refund to be Offset to pay some of the past due debt. You should have received a letter if this was the case.
  2. Something was not reported correctly on your return and the IRS recalculated your return causing you not to have a refund. This could include things such as missing income or inaccurately reported income (ex. you entered $5,500 for your W2 box 1 instead of $15,500)

You should look for a letter from the IRS and if you do not have one or do not receive one, you would need to call the IRS at 800-829-1040 as no one else would have the answer as to why your refund was reduced.
