Turbotax can't help. It knows nothing bout this and has no access if you need to provide documentation. the best option is to call. a mailed letter can take over 5 days to reach the iRS.
if there;'s a number on the notice call that number. Otherwise,
Call 800-829-1040
1) Choose your language,
2) Then choose option 2
3) Then 1
4) Then 3
5) Then 2
6) When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN do nothing – wait - - After it asks twice, you will get another menu
7) Then 2
😎 Then 3
It should then transfer you to an agent. Note when its phone line are busy you may be on hold for a long while or disconnected
you can also try to access your tax return transcript to see what it shows but that requires you to have or set up an ID.me account.
Other notes:
1) make sure you have a record of that amount being removed from whatever account you used to actually pay it.....on or near that date.
2) Sounds like it was an extension payment. Since it was part of an extension, did you eventually file your final tax forms at a later date...before 15 oct of 2024? And include that payment as having been made as a part of your final tax return? (assuming you did pay it back in April).
Certainly, talking with an IRS agent now is the best way to go. to see what happened, and if the~30k payment you made back in April, was properly applied to the correct tax year.
