I received a CP23 for an amount due of $30K. However, we paid this back in April. How do I react? Can TurboTax sort this out for me? Thanks - R
Hi -
I hope someone can help me with some advice concerning a CP23 form I just received.
I received a request for an amount due of $29,800 including penalty and interest of about $1,500 each.
However, we paid pretty much this amount ($30K) back in April.
We did the return with TurboTax - and the tax I owed in the CP23 equals the number in TurboTax. So I assume I should not owe another 30K. (terrible thought)
Hope the community can help or guide me. Can TurboTax sort this out for me?
A few questions I would have are:
1/ What is the smartest way of communicating with IRS - I would just call them on Monday?
2/ Should I put something in writing nevertheless?
3/ Did we do something wrong with the payment (see details below)?
4/ Can we get around these penalties?
5/ How do I deal with the Dec 16 date - I don't want to risk any further penalties or get on the tax-not-paid list. But I am not paying 30K that I would then try to get back again.
Thanks so much & happy holidays.
R
