The states of Kentucky and Indiana have reciprocal agreements, so you would only pay state tax to the state in which you live.
If you also owe county tax, that would be a separate issue.
Was the local tax listed on your W-2?
If yes, did you type in the W-2 or upload it?
What is the city/locality?
Hi, thank you for responding! I uploaded my W-2, and no, there is no local tax listed. But it is on my final pay stub for the year. Can you please tell me how to fix this? I just got an email that my IN return was accepted. Thank you!
The county is Clark.
If you paid 1358.68 and the state return is showing 1361, you'll need to pay $2.00
You should have corrected this before you filed.
You can try to get a corrected W-2 from your employer with the local tax withheld in listed in Boxes 18, 19, and 20.
You can file an amended Indiana return. Using TurboTax, you would need to go into the Federal section and report the local tax paid on the W-2 screen in Boxes 18, 19, and select CLARK for Box 20.
You could also wait for a letter from Clark county and send a copy of your pay stub.
If you still work in the area, you might want to go to the Clark County office and explain the situation. They might be able to straighten it all out in person. Be sure to bring that pay stub.
Thank you so much! It's my first time doing my taxes on my own since I started working in IN, so I know what to look for next time!
