I need to edit my 2106, as I made some mistakes when I was correcting the return at the end of my federal return processing. How do I edit it?

I started manually editing the document at the end of the federal tax reconciliation, but made a couple of mistakes while I was doing it.  There's no way to back up during that process, and the options/questions during the deductions process doesn't cover any of the questions that are actually on the form 2106.  How do I get back to the 2106 to fix my mistakes?

Taxpayers use Form 2106 if they were an Armed Forces reservist, qualified performing artist, fee-basis state or local government official, or employee with impairment-related work expenses.

To Edit form 2106:

  • Login to your account.
  • Select Federal from the left menu
  • Go to Deductions and Credits.
  • Scroll down to Employment Expenses
  • Select Revisit next to Job Expenses for W-2 Income

Sadly, that doesn't actually work.  There are a lot of portions of the 2106 that are not covered in that section of TurboTax.  For example - number of miles actually used for personal vs business travel.  Amount of money used on home office.  Money spent on uniforms.  None of those are in turbotax, but when you reconcile you have to insert something manually into the form 2106.  Now I can't get BACK TO form 2106 to change those answers.

Job-related expenses for employees are no longer deductible on most people’s federal return in tax years 2018 through 2025 due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that Congress passed and the President signed into law on December 22, 2017.

However, they may be deductible on your state return. Expenses that qualify for this deduction are those the IRS considers "ordinary and necessary" for work, like uniforms, tools, union dues, licenses, and travel between job sites.

Please follow the instructions below to revisit the input for Form 2106:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Search 2106 with the magnifying glass tool.
  3. Select the Jump to 2106 link.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
