A form 1098 (there are several) is issued to you and you used the information on it to complete a tax return ... so ask the issuer for another copy if you do not have it.
A plain Form 1098, with no letters after it, shows the amount of mortgage interest that you paid. It comes from your mortgage lender. Call them and ask them how you can get a copy of it.
Thanks and the form is a 1098e it's one I need from my student loans. And I have reached out but the office is closed due to covid-19 and department of education website is down so I can't reach them through their website. Is there a way the IRS would have it on their website?
Thanks for the help but I need a 1098e for my student loan payments so I can file. And the department of education website is down so I am looking for other ways to get the form.
You can't get your 1098-E on the IRS web site. You have to get if from whoever you make the payments to. But you don't actually need the form. All you need is the amount of interest that you paid in 2019. Do you have a statement or bill that shows the amount of interest for the year? Or do you have online access to your loan account to see the amount of interest that you paid?
Only way to get it is from them if they did not mail one to you ... you will need to wait for them to be back online OR you could file now and amend later. But you do have until 7/15 to file so there is time to wait.
Thanks for all the advice and yes y'all were right I did a lot of calling around it had to come for my lender.
