You do not mention how long ago you mailed your tax return.   When did you send it?   Did you use any sort of mailing service to track it so you would know it was received?   If the IRS received it, it can take at least four weeks for a human to open the envelope and enter the information into the system.  Then it will take several more weeks -- or longer -- for the return to be processed by the IRS.  You can track it on the IRS refund site.

Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

Thanks for your help! To answer the questions, I mailed my taxes during the first week of March and used a tracking service but have since then lost the invoice with the tracking information. I can try to find it but in the off chance that I don't, would you recommend I refile?

I also filed my state taxes at the same time and mailed them in. I've already received my state refund so I want to assume they received my federal tax forms as well. When I tried to use the IRS website to find my return status it gave me an error message saying it couldn't find my form so I'm considering refiling - it's been 6 months since I initially filed for 2023. I can try calling the number you shared. (thank you so much for the detailed instructions!)
