You only download the .tax2023 file if you already have the 2023 "Desktop" software installed and operational on your computer, along with any state(s) software already up and running before you attempt to open the .tax2023 data file. (i.e. you start up the TTX software first, and open that file form within the actual tax software.
1) IF...if you actually paid for the "Online" tax software, back when you prepared your 2023 taxes, then there should be an option to download the PDF file from your account, and you would print out the appropriate pages you need from that PDF file. (no software needed for the PDF file...other than a PDF Reader)
2) If you prepared your 2023 taxes "Online" but did not pay for the software back then (in 2024) then you would need to buy, download, and install the 2023 "Desktop" software to a full Windows or MAC computer. Then start a dummy file to get whatever state(s) you need installed....before attempting to open that .tax2023 datafile.
